Nice to see you here!
I am a fourth-year PhD student at Boston University and my research areas are mostly in phonetics and phonology. I received a Masters in Linguistics from EFL University India in 2019, where I also earned my Bachelors in English Language and Literature in 2017.
I have always found speech sounds very fascinating. I am interested understanding how speakers with different L1s converge in their L2 speech while conversing with others.
Outside of my research, I enjoy painting, spending time surrounded by nature, and anything Studio Ghibli.
What am I currently working on?
Some of my previous projects involved collecting judgement from speakers on the typologically rare backward and copy-control structures in Assamese. I have also been involved in analyzing language usage in Daru, Papua New Guinea, with Dr Kate Lynn Lindsey. More works include identifying vowel space variation of Assamese speakers by looking at socioeconomic factors.
I am also currently trying to create a phonological description of Koch Rajbongshi, an under-represented language spoken in northeast India. For this, I am collecting audio recordings from native Koch Rajbongshi speakers in Assam, India. If you are a native speaker, or know somebody who is, please send me an email!
